Sutherland - Open day & 60 year celebration

  • 22 Apr 2023
  • 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve, Manooka Place, Kareela Pedestrian access also from Bates Drive Kareela

APS Sutherland is celebrating 60 years: 1963–2023 and the group's open day will be part of the Sutherland Shire citizens heritage festival.

Guided walks hourly on the natural and cultural heritage values of the reserve. Learn about the reserve’s namesake, Sir Joseph Banks, and his contribution to scientific endeavours.

Also a display of photos developed for the 50th anniversary of Joseph Banks Reserve in 2020. Plus resources, indigenous plants and refreshments for sale.

The reserve showcases the beauty and diversity of Australian native plants in an accessible environment with bitumen paths, toilets, tables and electric BBQs. There’s still plenty to see in autumn in the planted areas and the more natural areas.

There will also be other events on the same day as part of the heritage festival. APS Sutherland members will be on the hourly heritage bus route loop with a stop at the reserve entry in Manooka Place.
