Speaker : Paul Hillier
Topic : the new Rhizanthella species discovery at Barrington Tops

Paul will present on the new Rhizanthella species discovery at Barrington Tops National Park, including the key physical differences between it and Rhizanthella slateri (Eastern Australian Underground Orchid). He will discuss the use of conservation detection dogs to search for both species and what’s planned for the Rhizanthella slateri Saving our Species Project for 2020-2021.


Paul is an SoS (Saving our Species) officer for the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, based in Newcastle. Apart from the Underground Orchids (Rhizanthella ssp) which will be the topic of his talk, he is one of the responsible officers for the SoS projects and an expert on koalas, the greenhood orchid Pterostylis chaetophora, the North Rothbury Persoonia, Persoonia pauciflora, the donkey orchid Diuris flavescens, the tongue orchid Cryptostylis hunteriana, and the Tuncurry midge orchid Genoplesium littorale.
