Riverwatch was formed around 25 years ago by a concerned group of locals lead by Charlie Weir. Charlie was a local commercial fisherman who was concerned about the condition of the river and wanted to give something back.
Shoalhaven Riverwatch is a volunteer group from all walks of life working to improve the health of the Shoalhaven River. They plant mangroves, propagate Casuarinas in their nurseries to stabilise riverbanks., erect fences to prevent livestock damaging banks, collect rubbish and construct sand sausages to resist erosion. Riverwatch works in conjunction with Fisheries, council, Local Land Care groups and other governing and volunteer bodies. They are a non profit organisation.
