Doryanthes excelsa Common Name: Gymea lily Family: Doryanthaceae Location: Mid Nth Coast to Wollongong – Local Flower Colour: Red on a spike Flowers: Spring, summer or winter – depends on rain. Soil: Sandy to Clay loam – deep, as it draws the ‘bulb’ down. Drainage: Well drained Exposure: Sun to light shade Growth habit: Height – 2 to 4 m x Width – 2 to 3 m Water: Loves moisture Danger: When grown from seed, 7 to 8 years to flower.
