The Newcastle Group meets at the Hunter Wetlands Centre. A map (and directions) of how to get to the Hunter Wetland Centre can be found on their web site - http://www.wetlands.org.au/
Our meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except January). December is an informal Christmas gathering.
People start arriving at our meetings at around 7:00 p.m. with the formalities starting at 7:30 p.m.
Visitors are always welcome to our meetings.
Highlights of our meetings:
- Plants (seedlings) for sale to members;
- Raffle plants;
- Plant table where plants brought in by members are identified and discussed;
- Outstanding guest speakers;
- A quick run down of upcoming events;
- Supper and chat.
Paul Hillier from the Office of Environment and Heritage in Newcastle, who is an SOS (Saving Our
Species) officer, working on Persoonia pauciflora, the North Rothbury Geebung. He will talk to us
about the SOS project for one of our rarest species in the Hunter and other species being worked on
in our region.
Lynda McPherson will talk on “Native Terrestrial Orchids of the Hunter Region Botanical Gardens”. As well as her work at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens, Lynda is currently working at the Don McNair
herbarium and is recording the locations and species of all of the terrestrial orchids at the University of Newcastle.
